Dan Stezo - NL

Born and raised in The Netherlands Dan Stezo got involved with lyricism and emceeing at an early age. After discovering Hip hop during the late ’80s he gained experience as part of Hiphop outfit Ancient Scriptures and also with various local soundsystems. Since then Dan Stezo has come a long way, performing all over The Netherlands mainly in the Drum & Bass scene.

His gift for emceeing has taken him across Europe and South East Asia, hosting nights in Belgium, Luxemburg, Russia, Czech Republic and Spain as well as in Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Versatile in every sense of the word, Dan Stezo does it all, and does it well: Hiphop, Drum & Bass, Eclectic and House; in Dutch and in English. This flexibility has led to performances alongside renowned international artists such as Goldie, Grooverider, Aphrodite, Ed Rush & Optical, DJ I.E Merge, DJ Beware, Makoto and a host of Dutch heavyweights including Don Diablo, Laidback Luke, DJ Rockid, DJ Irwan, Kraak & Smaak, Victor Coral, Sidney Samson, Drunken Lion Soundsystem, Noisia, TLM, Philip Young and long time collaborator Lenzman to name only a few.

The emcee’s prolific performances haven’t gone unnoticed resulting in four consecutive nominations at the Dutch Drum & Bass Awards in the ‘Best MC’ category. Presently Dan Stezo continues to push the envelope: emceeing with electronic Hiphop collective theFringe and making his mark in the popular genre; in venues like Off Corso, Jimmy Woo, Thalia, Hotel Arena and as one of the emcees at the infamous Girls Love DJs parties. All this, while staying one of the foremost hosts in the Dutch Drum & Bass scene.

The last years, both rhymes and deliverance matured in the notorious Drum & Bass arena, providing Dan Stezo MC with all the needed skills to rock any party; whether House, Eclectic or Dancehall. Dan Stezo’s style might best be described by the `less is more` phrase. Not by sheer authority, but by a truly spontaneous approach, Dan Stezo created an upbeat mind-set amongst contemporary club masses. Through timing, precision and intonation the emcee’s chatter builds a synergy which has been proofed and tested by many.

Apart from being an active artist, Dan Stezo also managed to create successful party concepts in The Netherlands. Most prolific concepts include West Up and Fever. West Up was produced a few years ago with others to highlight the Hiphop music from the American west coast in a time when east coast music dominated the Hiphop scene. Occasionally West Up pops up in Paradiso, confirming its unexpired value. The other concept is Fever which focuses on the soulful styles of Drum & Bass. Until Fever started attracting enthusiasts, this soulful subgenre was almost unheard, let alone celebrated in The Netherlands. Against the odds Fever proofed its worth in the scene with over 10 successful editions, which hosted the top from the international DnB landscape. Producers and DJs such as Calibre, Makoto, Artificial Intelligence and Commix to only name a few all gave ‘acte de presence’ at the now notorious Fever nights. In 2007 Fever was nominated at the Dutch Drum & Bass award in the categories ‘Best Event’ and ‘Best Artwork’.
